Pig Shit

I recently had a lovely argument about strong characters expressing strong opinions, and how that can be harmful because it is almost always the case that they've ruled everything else out, leaving their opinion pure and strong, but not realistic, or respectful. But I love it when people are so absolute in expressing opinions,  no one's asking you to buy the whole thing exactly how it's expressed, and it's stimulating.  I kept silent as I was trying to remember a text about pig shit that was a good example. Wasn't fast enough, and the conversation turned to asses, and that beats everything. But now, about  week later, I remembered that text ,ha! Antonin Artaud, "All Writing is Pigshit" . Artaud didn't even really believe in getting rid of writing altogether, but he wanted to do way with the ways humans have grown so comfortable with, easy classifications, the irresponsible adding to the mountain of information and the hyper-literacy that has made us schizophrenic individuals:

"All writing is pigshit and people who leave the obscure and try to define whatever it is that goes on in their heads are pigs. And those for whom certain words have a meaning, and certain manners of being; those who are so fussy; those for whom emotions are classifiable, and who quibble over some degree or other of their hilarious classifications; those who still believe in 'terms'; those who brandish whatever ideologies belong to the hierarchy of the times... those who follow paths, who drop names, who fill books with screaming headlines are the worst kind of pigs."

Antonin Artaud, All Writing is Pigshit
quote mentioned in 'on an(archy) and schizoanalysis by Rolando Perez
