Ilustrations by Alexis Kyritsopoulos

I recently came across a book of folk stories with Nastradin Hodja, illustrated by Aleksis Kyritsopoulos. For some unknown reason I'd dismissed those illustrations, but now I realise they are very good. Here are my favourites

(this one reads: "You can sit wherever you want, jut not inside")

Study for Mural, Alasdair Gray.

This Painting is derived from Alasdair Gray's Mural ‘The Seventh Day of Creation - Eden and After’, in Greenhead church in Glasgow, completed in 1963. The Church was closed down in 1971.
The mural became quite controversial after the press noticed that God was depicted clearly on it. In the actual mural you could see less of him, as he was looking over at his creation, with his back almost completely turned against the viewer. Alasdair Gray says he painted god with a white beard like his father's. The animals and plants were inspired by "The Miracle of Life" and cigarette cards his dad gave him. I'll soon scan a photo of the actual mural from Gray's new book "A Life in Pictures"
